Long boarding is one thing I have been meaning to take a whack at. I see it everywhere, from in the parking garages at the University of Arizona to casual riding on the side streets. I think the one thing holding me back from trying it is that amount of horrendous accidents that I have seen come from it.The road burns and scratches you can receive from flying off the board at high speeds is, well, just scary. But i guess you could be safe a wear the recommended, yet tacky, athletic wear. If I decide in the near future to forget what could happen, and just do it, I would definitely head up to Mount Lemon. The roads up there would be perfect for long boarding. I would definitely have to do some practicing though because the hills up there are perfect for high speeds.
The other day at work we were conversating over our broken ice machine and the enormous ice blocks it was creating. This reminded me of my days in high school when I heard of this activity everyone called "ice-blocking". Unfortunately I myself never participated in this activity but it was one I wished I would have. Those lucky rebels who did, spent late hot summer nights cooling off there bums and having fun at the same time. I must warn some, this activity, depending on your location, might be considered trespassing so participate at your own risk (sometimes the risk is what makes it fun!). Now what is ice blocking exactly? Using those large blocks of ice you find at corner stores and grocery stores, find a grassy hill, and well SLIDE! If you are going with multiple people I would say two ice blocks will be enough, but don't forget to bring a towel or two to put between you and your ice block otherwise you might experience frost-bum! Living in the desert there are very limited grassy hills available to us, therefore this forced us to use the perfect grassy hills on golf courses. Unfortunately, most golf courses were not made for ice-blocking (what?) so beware this may be considered trespassing. All in all, its worth the risk! Cooling off on a summer night while living on the edge (of an ice block)!
